Can I use Styku on multiple laptops or in a cloud-based setup?

Can I use Styku on multiple laptops or in a cloud-based setup?

Multiple laptops: Yes

You can install Styku Studio on more than one Windows computer. The typical setup is:

  • One scanning computer — your scanner laptop, with the scanning license active. This is the only machine that can capture new scans.
  • One or more viewing computers — additional Windows machines with their own viewing licenses. These can view all client profiles and scan results but cannot capture new scans.

Each viewing computer needs its own unique viewing license key. A single key cannot be shared between devices. Request viewing license keys through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal.

For step-by-step setup, see Viewing Licenses: How to Request, Install, and Activate Styku Studio on Additional Computers.

Cloud-based or browser-based Studio: No

Styku Studio is a Windows desktop application. There is no web version, no cloud-streamed version, and no mobile version of Studio.

  • ❌ Mac, iPad, iPhone, Chromebook, Android — none of these run Studio.
  • ❌ There is no browser-based Studio you can open from any device.
  • ✅ Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit) only.

But your scan data is in the cloud

Although Studio runs locally, all scan data syncs to Styku's servers automatically. The cloud sync means:

  • Any Styku Studio installation signed in to your account (and with a valid license) sees the same scan history.
  • Clients can view their own scans on the Styku mobile app without needing access to Studio.
  • If a scanner laptop is replaced, the new install pulls down the existing scan history once signed in.

For details on how sync works, see How does cloud sync work and when will clients see their results in the mobile app?.

Moving a single scanner between locations

A physical scanner can be moved between locations — Styku even sells an optional travel kit for off-site events. A few things to know:

  • The scanner is registered to one primary location. Its associations (subscription, address, primary point of contact) are tied to that location.
  • Moving the scanner does not require a new license, but you should re-verify the room setup at the new site (clearance, lighting, background).
  • Scanning the same client at multiple locations can affect scan quality and progress tracking. Differences in lighting, background, and clearance at each site can introduce variation that looks like a body composition change in the data, when it's really an environmental change. For longitudinal tracking, scan the same client at the same scanner location whenever possible.

What is not supported

  • Sharing a single license key across multiple computers (violates the Styku software license agreement).
  • Running Studio on a non-Windows device.
  • A browser-based or cloud-streamed version of Studio.
  • Capturing scans from a viewing-license computer.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal and include: the email address on your Styku account, how many computers you want to use Studio on, the role each computer will serve (scanning vs. viewing), and the Windows version on each device.

Applies to: Styku Studio V5, all current Styku scanner configurations, Windows 10 and Windows 11
