“When [Styku] came across my desk I looked at it as something else,” Vitti said. “There’s postural distortion patterns. I started saying to myself, ‘Geez this laser scanning is accurate to a millimeter. Maybe we can scan our players and do measurements on them and pick up data points. The scanning is so accurate that it actually looks like you.’”

The athletic trainers mind has been racing ever since. The technology, which presents a remarkably lifelike image and can make even incremental changes obvious, can allow Vitti to measure what he calls functional height – the height from the sole of the feet to the base of the neck – as well as wingspan independent of body curvature and thousands of other measurements.
