Can I use my own laptop or computer with Styku Studio?

Short Answer

Yes. You can run Styku Studio on your own Windows computer as long as it meets the minimum hardware specs and you request a license reset from Styku Support before activating on the new machine. Styku also sells a pre-configured replacement laptop ($750 + shipping) that is guaranteed to meet all requirements and is pre-tested with the scanner.

Two options

Option 1 — Use your own Windows computer

You can install Styku Studio on a Windows laptop or PC you already own, or one you buy yourself, provided it meets all of the following minimum specs:

**Processor** | Intel Core i5 (8th Generation or newer), or equivalent

**Memory (RAM)** | 8 GB minimum

**Storage** | 256 GB SSD minimum

**Display** | Touchscreen recommended but not required

**Ports** | At least one USB 3.0 Type-A port (for camera tower and turntable)

Touchscreen is recommended but not required. A touchscreen makes it easier to navigate the scanning interface and present results to clients, but Styku Studio works fully with a standard mouse and keyboard.

If you're unsure whether a specific computer model qualifies, contact Styku Support before purchasing and they can confirm compatibility.

Option 2 — Buy a Styku-supplied replacement laptop

Styku sells a pre-configured replacement laptop that is guaranteed to meet all requirements and is pre-tested with the scanner:

  • Currently $750 plus shipping.
  • Touchscreen included (recommended for ease of use).
  • Pre-installed with Styku Studio and ready to activate.

To request one, submit a ticket through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal and a sales representative will be assigned to handle the order.

You still need a license reset

Regardless of which option you choose, your existing Styku license must be released from your current machine before it will activate on the new one. A license key can only be active on one computer at a time, and you cannot release it yourself — Styku Support has to reset it on the backend.

What's not supported

  • ❌ Mac, iPad, iPhone, Chromebook, Android — Styku Studio runs on Windows only.
  • ❌ Tablets that don't run full Windows 10/11 (e.g. an Android tablet or an iPad).
  • ❌ Sharing one license key across both the original Styku laptop and your own laptop. The license must move to the new machine; it can't be active on both.

Recommended workflow

  1. Decide whether to use your own device (must meet specs above) or order a Styku replacement laptop.
  2. If using your own device, confirm it meets all minimum specs before starting.
  3. Submit a support ticket through the Styku Business Portal to request a license reset. Mention whether you are switching to your own laptop or ordering a Styku replacement.
  4. Once Support confirms the reset, follow the steps in the license-transfer article to install Studio, activate the license, and reconnect the camera tower and turntable on the new machine.
  5. Run a test scan to confirm everything is working.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal and include: whether you are using your own laptop or a Styku-supplied one, the make/model and Windows version of the new computer, and any error message shown during installation or activation.
