Why is my Styku turntable not connecting or working correctly?
If your Styku turntable is not being detected, is showing a "USB device not recognized" error in Windows, is not rotating correctly, or is not capturing weight, the cause is most often a loose or faulty USB cable connection, an inactive USB port, or a driver issue on the laptop. In most cases, fully unplugging both cables, waiting, and reconnecting them in the correct order resolves the problem.
This article covers both the V5 Turntable (used with Styku X2 Pro and Styku S100) and the V6 Turntable (used with Styku X2L). Model-specific differences are noted where they apply.
Before You Start
The turntable requires both a USB connection (for data) and a power adapter (for rotation and weight measurement). Both must be connected. Have the original USB cable, access to all USB ports on the laptop, and the power adapter plugged into a working wall outlet.
Step 1: Fully Unplug the Turntable
- Close Styku Studio if it is open.
- Unplug the power adapter from the turntable.
- Unplug the USB cable from the turntable and from the laptop.
- Wait 30 seconds (or up to 60 seconds for a V6 turntable) to allow a full reset.
Step 2: Reconnect in the Correct Order
Reconnecting in the correct order is important.
- Standard reconnect (V5 and V6): Plug the power cable in first, then the USB cable.
- V6 exception — after counting to 60 from a full power-off cycle: Plug the USB cable in first, then the power cord.
After reconnecting, wait a few seconds for Windows to detect the device, then re-launch Styku Studio and check whether the turntable is recognized.
Step 3: Try a Different USB Port
If the turntable is still not recognized:
- Unplug the USB cable from its current port on the laptop.
- Plug it into a different USB port on the laptop.
- Wait 10–15 seconds, then open or restart Styku Studio.
- Repeat for each available USB port if needed.
Tips: Always plug directly into the laptop — not through a hub. If an extension is needed, use USB 2.0 rather than USB 3.0. If a Windows update recently ran, restart the laptop before reconnecting.
Step 4: Inspect the USB Cable for Damage
- Look along the full length of the cable for any kinks, fraying, or bent connectors.
- If the cable appears damaged, it may need to be replaced.
- Styku offers a replacement cable set for the V5 turntable. Contact support to request one.
Step 5: Check for a Driver Issue in Device Manager
If the turntable is still not recognized, a corrupted or missing driver may be the cause.
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Look for devices with a yellow warning icon, and expand Ports (COM & LPT) to check for the turntable entry.
- If you see a problematic entry, right-click it and select Uninstall device. Unplug the USB cable, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
- Alternatively, right-click the entry → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- V6 note: Also check whether a USB Host Controller driver needs updating.
- Restart the laptop after any driver changes and test in Styku Studio.
Step 6: Run Troubleshooting in Styku Studio (V6)
If you are using a V6 turntable, after reconnecting cables and restarting the laptop:
- Open Styku Studio and go to the administrator view by pressing View Profiles and entering your PIN code.
- Press the Troubleshooting option and allow it to run to confirm everything is connected.
- Once troubleshooting completes, proceed to verify turntable rotation and weight scale function as described below.
Step 7: Test Turntable Rotation Without Starting a Scan
You can verify turntable rotation independently of a full scan using the Tools menu. Log in as an administrator, then:
- Press the Tools button in the software.
- Press the Start/Stop button next to the Start/Stop Turntable option to begin rotation.
- When the turntable is in the desired position, press Start/Stop again to stop it.
If the turntable does not respond to this test, the issue is likely hardware- or connection-related rather than a scan configuration problem.
Step 8: Verify and Recalibrate the Weight Scale
If the turntable rotates but weight is not captured correctly:
Check: Press Tools → Use Weight Scale and follow the on-screen instructions to take a reading.
Calibrate: Press Tools → Calibrate Weight Scale. Enter the person's known weight (from a reference scale) and press Save and Continue. Have them step on when prompted — the software calculates and applies an adjustment. Use Calibrate manually to fine-tune with the slider if needed.
Additional Environmental Checks
- Make sure the turntable is placed on a flat, stable surface with at least 17 inches of clearance on all sides from walls and furniture.
- Confirm the room has no direct sunlight or strong ambient daylight — this can interfere with the infrared camera and cause scan quality issues.
- The scanner must be connected to the internet. The turntable will not operate correctly if Styku Studio cannot validate your license.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support via the Styku Business Portal at https://www.styku.com/portal and include: your scanner model, a description of what the turntable does when you attempt a scan, which USB ports you tested, whether the turntable appears in Device Manager, any error messages, and which steps above you already tried.
