Why is my Styku laptop showing a BitLocker recovery screen?
Your Styku laptop is showing a BitLocker recovery screen because Windows BitLocker encryption was activated — most likely when someone signed into a Microsoft account on the computer. Styku does not enable BitLocker, so we do not hold your recovery key. The good news is that the key is usually retrievable from the Microsoft account that was used on the device.
Step 1: Find Your BitLocker Recovery Key
The recovery key is a 48-digit number. It is saved automatically to whichever Microsoft account was signed into the laptop. To find it:
- On a different device (phone or another computer), go to account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used on the Styku laptop.
- Find the entry for your device and copy the recovery key.
- Enter the key on the BitLocker recovery screen on your Styku laptop.
Not sure which Microsoft account was used? Try any accounts your staff or previous users may have signed into on that computer.
Step 2: Use Your Laptop Manufacturer's Recovery Instructions
If you cannot locate the recovery key, your laptop manufacturer may provide additional options.
- Dell laptop: Follow Dell's BitLocker recovery guide at dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000130549
- HP laptop: Follow HP's guide at support.hp.com
Prevent This From Happening Again
Once you are back into the laptop, you can reduce the chance of this happening again:
- Avoid signing into a personal Microsoft account on the Styku laptop.
- If you must use a Microsoft account, make sure you save or note the recovery key from account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey.
If You Cannot Recover Access
If none of the steps above work, contact Styku support. In some cases, a replacement device may need to be discussed.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your laptop brand and model (found on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop), whether you were able to access a Microsoft account recovery key page, and a photo of the BitLocker recovery screen if possible.
