Why is my Styku computer touchscreen unresponsive, glitching, or intermittently malfunctioning?
Why is my Styku computer touchscreen unresponsive, glitching, or intermittently malfunctioning?
If your Styku computer's touchscreen is unresponsive, flickering, or showing visual glitches, there are a few quick things to try before contacting support. Most touchscreen issues are caused by a software or driver problem, a dirty screen, or a Windows on-screen keyboard conflict — all of which can be resolved without replacing the computer. If the problem turns out to be a hardware defect, Styku support can arrange a replacement device.
Step 1: Check for Physical Causes
- Make sure the screen is clean. Smudges, moisture, or debris can interfere with touch detection.
- Check that nothing is resting against or pressing on the screen — a case, stand, cable, or nearby object can register as a false touch.
- Make sure the computer is not sitting in direct sunlight or near a bright light source aimed at the screen.
Step 2: Disable the On-Screen Keyboard (if the screen flashes before a keyboard appears)
If the screen flashes or glitches right before a keyboard pops up, the Windows on-screen keyboard is likely triggering the issue.
To disable it quickly, press Ctrl + Windows Key + O on a physical keyboard.
To turn it off permanently:
- Open Windows Settings.
- Go to Accessibility → Keyboard.
- Turn off On-screen keyboard.
Step 3: Install Pending Windows Updates
Outdated drivers or Windows system files can cause touchscreen instability. As noted in Styku's guidance on computer performance, a pending Windows Update can affect the performance of the computer — and the same applies to touchscreen behavior.
Important Note: Installing Windows Updates can take significant time, so make sure you plan around it.
- Disconnect the Styku sensor tower and turntable from the computer before proceeding. Some Windows Updates change hardware drivers and will not install properly if the hardware is connected.
- Right-click the Windows icon.
- Select Settings (gear icon).
- Select Update & Security.
- Press the Check for Updates button.
- Download and install all updates as needed.
- Reboot the computer when prompted and allow Windows to install the updates.
- Reconnect the Styku hardware.
- Test the touchscreen after the restart.
Step 4: Record a Short Video of the Issue
If the problem continues after the steps above, record a short video on your phone that clearly shows what the screen is doing. This helps the Styku support team diagnose whether the issue is a driver problem or a hardware defect, and speeds up the resolution.
If the Problem Is a Hardware Defect
If a driver reinstall or remote session with support confirms the screen is physically faulty, a replacement computer will be arranged. While waiting for a replacement, you may be able to run Styku Studio on another Windows computer in your facility — contact support to get it set up. See Styku's hardware requirements page for minimum specifications any replacement or temporary computer must meet.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: a short video recording of the glitch or unresponsive behavior, a description of when it happens (e.g., always, only when scanning, only when the keyboard opens), confirmation of whether Windows is fully up to date, and whether the issue appeared after any recent changes to the computer or its setup.
