Why is my bone mass weight so low?

Why is my bone mass weight so low?

A Styku bone mass reading is lower than what most people expect because Styku — like DEXA — reports dry bone mass.

While the average human skeleton weighs about 10–14 kg (accounting for around 12–15% of total body weight), DEXA and Styku estimate only the dry mineral mass without the marrow, water, and blood.

Typical Dry Bone Mass Ranges

  • Most adult males: 2 kg to 4 kg
  • Most adult females: 1.5 kg to 2.5 kg

These values are the dry skeletal mineral content — the same metric DEXA reports. A value in this range is normal, not low.

What Styku Reports vs. Bone Density

Styku reports Bone Mineral Content (BMC) — the total weight of bone mineral in the torso. It does not report bone density (g/cm²), which is the clinical metric used to diagnose conditions like osteoporosis. See Does Styku measure bone density? for the distinction.

Applies to: All Styku configurations.
