Why has my Styku scanner lost connection to the tablet and how do I fix it?
If your tablet has lost connection to the Styku camera tower, the most common cause is a problem with the USB cable between the tower and the tablet. In most cases, reseating or replacing the cable restores the connection. Follow the steps below before contacting support.
Step 1: Check the USB Cable Connection
A loose or damaged USB cable is the most frequent cause of this issue.
- Power off the tablet and unplug all USB cables from both the tower and the tablet.
- Inspect the cable for visible damage — look for fraying, bent connectors, or kinks near the ends.
- Reconnect the cable firmly at both ends. Make sure each connector is fully seated and does not wiggle.
- If your cable has a locking screw on the connector, tighten it by hand.
- Power the tablet back on and open Styku Studio to check if the tower is detected.
Step 2: Try a Different USB Port
If the connection is still not working:
- Unplug the USB cable from the tablet.
- Plug it into a different USB port on the tablet.
- Wait 15–20 seconds for the device to be recognized.
- Reopen Styku Studio and check for the tower connection.
Step 3: Reinstall the USB Drivers
If the tower is being detected as the wrong device type (for example, as a USB 2.0 device instead of USB 3.0), the USB drivers may need to be refreshed.
- Unplug all USB cables from the tablet.
- Restart the tablet completely.
- Once Windows has fully loaded, reconnect the tower USB cable.
- Open Styku Studio and check whether the tower connects successfully.
Step 4: Test Cable Stability
If the connection drops the moment you touch or move the cable, the cable itself is faulty and needs to be replaced. A cable that only connects in one specific position is not reliable and will continue to cause problems.
Step 5: Replace the USB Cable
If none of the above steps restore a stable connection, the USB cable needs to be replaced. You have two options:
- Purchase a Tower USB Kit from Styku — costs $45 and includes the correct cable and all tools needed for the replacement.
- Source a compatible cable yourself — you need a USB 3.0 Type-C cable with dual locking screws, 3 meters in length.
Contact Styku support (see below) to order the Tower USB Kit or to confirm cable compatibility before purchasing elsewhere.
⚠️ Note: There is no phone support line. If you have been trying to call, please use one of the contact methods listed below to reach the support team quickly.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your scanner model, a description of what happens when the tower USB cable is connected (for example, whether it shows as detected in Windows, whether it disconnects when the cable is moved), which USB port you are using on the tablet, and whether the cable shows any visible damage.
