Why does the V5 turntable stop mid-scan or fail to return to its start position?

Why does the V5 turntable stop mid-scan or fail to return to its start position?

If your V5 turntable stops rotating before the scan finishes — or doesn't return to its home position after a scan — you are likely dealing with a hardware fault in the turntable's motor or position sensor. Try the troubleshooting steps below first. If they don't resolve the issue, the turntable will need to be replaced.

Step 1: Check your environment setup

A few environmental factors can interfere with turntable operation. Before troubleshooting the turntable itself, confirm your setup meets these requirements:

  • The floor under the turntable is solid and completely flat
  • There is at least 17 inches of clear space on all sides of the turntable
  • There is no direct sunlight or bright ambient light hitting the scanner area
  • There are no highly reflective objects (mirrors, glass, shiny floors) near the scanner

Step 2: Verify the Auto Reset setting

  1. Open Styku Studio on your laptop
  2. Go to Settings > Turntable
  3. Confirm that Auto Reset Turntable is turned on

Step 3: Power cycle the full system

A full restart clears temporary communication errors between the turntable and the laptop.

  1. Close Styku Studio on the laptop
  2. Shut down the laptop completely
  3. Remove the power and USB cables from the turntable
  4. Wait 30 seconds
  5. Plug the power cable back into the turntable
  6. Then plug the USB cable back into the turntable
  7. Turn the laptop back on
  8. Reopen Styku Studio and attempt a test scan

Step 4: Manually verify turntable rotation

To confirm the turntable motor is responding correctly without triggering a full scan, you can manually rotate the turntable to its start position:

  1. Log in as an administrator and press the Tools button in the software
  2. Press the Start/Stop button next to the Start/Stop Turntable option to start the turntable rotating
  3. When the turntable is in the correct position, press the Start/Stop button again to stop rotation

If the turntable does not respond to these controls, this is a strong indicator of a hardware fault.

Step 5: Recalibrate the turntable

If the power cycle did not help, run a turntable calibration from within Styku Studio:

  1. Go to the administrator view by pressing the View Profiles button and entering your PIN code
  2. Choose Tools
  3. Find the Calibrate Turntable option
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to recalibrate your turntable weight scale

Note: You will need another weight scale to complete the calibration.

If you have already run multiple calibrations without success, skip this step — further calibration is unlikely to help and hardware replacement should be requested.

When to contact support

If the turntable still stops mid-scan or fails to reset after completing all the steps above, the issue is most likely a hardware fault — either in the turntable motor or its internal position sensor. Continued resets and calibrations will not fix a hardware fault. Contact Styku Support via the business portal at https://www.styku.com/portal to arrange a hardware replacement.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: a description of exactly where in the rotation the turntable stops (e.g., "stops at the 3/4 mark"), how many calibration attempts you have made, confirmation of whether Auto Reset is enabled in settings, and any error messages shown in Styku Studio at the time of the failure.
