Why does Styku Studio show "sensor not detected" and how do I fix it?
If Styku Studio displays a "sensor not detected" or "can't detect sensor" error, the most common cause is a loose or failed USB connection between your hardware and the laptop. Work through the steps below in order — most users resolve this issue before reaching the end of the list.
Step 1: Check all cable connections
- Locate the USB cable running from the back of the camera tower to the laptop.
- Unplug it from both ends, then firmly re-plug it in.
- Locate the USB cable running from the turntable to the laptop.
- Unplug it from both ends, then firmly re-plug it in.
- Locate the turntable power adapter and confirm it is plugged into a working wall outlet.
- Check that the green light on the turntable power adapter is on.
Step 2: Restart the laptop
- Close Styku Studio.
- Restart the laptop using the Windows Start menu — a full restart, not Sleep or Shut down.
- Once Windows has fully loaded, re-open Styku Studio and attempt a scan.
A restart is especially worth trying if your scanner was working and then stopped after a Windows or Styku software update.
Step 3: Confirm the turntable is detected by Windows
If the error persists after restarting, check whether Windows can see the turntable at all.
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Click the arrow next to Ports (COM & LPT) to expand that section.
- Confirm that a port entry appears for the turntable.
If no port is listed, Windows is not detecting the turntable. Try plugging the USB cable into a different USB port on the laptop, then check again.
Step 4: Confirm the camera tower USB port is working
Plug a different USB device (such as a USB flash drive) into the same USB port used by the camera tower. If the USB drive is recognised, the port is working and the issue may be with the cable or the tower itself.
- If the port is not recognised with any device, try a different USB port on the laptop.
- If the camera tower is still not detected after trying a different port and cable, the tower may need to be replaced.
When to contact support
If you have completed all steps above and the sensor is still not detected, the issue is likely a hardware fault that cannot be resolved remotely. Contact Styku support so a replacement can be arranged.
- Response time is typically 1 business day.
- Submit a ticket via the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: the exact error message shown in Styku Studio, which hardware is not detected (camera tower, turntable, or both), what you observed in Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT), whether the turntable power adapter green light is on, and whether the issue started after a software or Windows update.
