Why does Styku skip the print dialog and default to A4 paper size instead of Letter?
Why does Styku skip the print dialog and default to A4 paper size instead of Letter?
When you click Print inside Styku Studio, the app sends the print job directly to your Windows default printer — it does not open a print preferences dialog. If your printer is receiving A4 paper size jobs, the fix is made in Windows printer settings, not inside Styku. Until Styku adds an in-app print dialog, the workaround below will resolve the A4 error.
Why This Happens
Styku Studio does not manage paper size or printer preferences directly. It relies entirely on your Windows printer configuration. Windows stores paper size defaults in more than one place, and if any of those settings are set to A4, Styku will send A4 jobs — even if your printer appears to be set up correctly elsewhere.
This is a known software limitation. There is currently no paper size setting inside Styku Studio itself.
How to Fix It: Update Your Windows Printer Defaults
You need to check and update two separate locations in Windows — both must be set to Letter.
Step 1 — Set Printing Preferences to Letter
- Close Styku Studio.
- Open Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select your printer, then click Manage.
- Click Printing preferences.
- Set Paper size to Letter (8.5" x 11").
- Click Apply, then OK.
Step 2 — Set Printing Defaults to Letter (the most important step)
This second location controls how applications — including Styku — send print jobs silently. It can override the setting you made in Step 1.
- Open the Control Panel (search for it in the Windows Start menu).
- Go to Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Printer properties.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Printing Defaults.
- Set Paper size to Letter (8.5" x 11").
- Click Apply, then OK.
Step 3 — Check Your Windows Region Setting
If Windows is configured for a region where A4 is standard, it can apply A4 automatically to silent print jobs.
- Open Settings and go to Time & language > Language & region.
- Make sure Country or region is set to United States.
- Click Save if you made a change.
Step 4 — Check Your Printer Driver (if the problem continues)
If Windows installed a generic printer driver automatically, it may be defaulting to A4 regardless of your settings. Installing the full driver package from your printer manufacturer's website often resolves this.
- Visit your printer manufacturer's website (for example, hp.com, brother.com, or epson.com).
- Search for your printer model and download the full driver package.
- Install it, then repeat Steps 1 and 2 above to confirm paper size is set to Letter.
In the Meantime: Save and Print as a Workaround
If you need to print right away, use this workaround:
- From Styku Studio, press the Share Results button at the bottom of the window once you have opened a scan profile.
- Select the type of report you would like to create.
- Choose Save to save the report to your computer.
- Open the saved file on your computer.
- Print from your PDF viewer or file viewer, where the full print dialog will appear and you can confirm Letter size before printing.
This is how many users print Styku reports today while the in-app print dialog limitation is present.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your printer make and model, a screenshot of your Printing Defaults paper size setting, your Windows region setting, whether you are using the manufacturer's full driver or a Windows generic driver, and the exact error message your printer displays.
