Why does Styku show a sensor connection error even though the turntable is recognized?

Why does Styku show a sensor connection error even though the turntable is recognized?

If Styku Studio detects your turntable but then displays a sensor error and prompts you to call for help, the camera tower (depth sensor) is most likely not communicating correctly with the laptop. In most cases, swapping the USB cables between ports resolves the issue immediately.

What's Happening

Your Styku scanner has two USB devices connected to the laptop:

  • The turntable (rotating platform)
  • The camera tower (depth sensor)

When the software detects the turntable but fails at the sensor step, it usually means the camera tower is either plugged into the wrong port or has a loose connection. The D455 depth sensor in the camera tower requires a specific USB connection to receive enough power and data bandwidth.

Steps to Fix the Sensor Connection Error

  1. Close Styku Studio on the laptop if it is open.
  2. Unplug both USB cables — the turntable cable and the camera tower cable — from the laptop.
  3. Swap the ports. Plug the camera tower cable into the port that the turntable was using, and plug the turntable cable into the port that the camera tower was using.
    • If your laptop has a USB-C port, make sure the camera tower cable is the one connected to it. The D455 sensor requires USB-C for proper power and data transmission.
  4. Confirm all cables are fully seated. Push each connector in firmly until it stops.
  5. Reopen Styku Studio and attempt a scan again.

If the Error Still Appears After Swapping Cables

Try these additional checks before contacting support:

  • Avoid USB hubs or extension cables. Connect both devices directly to the laptop's built-in ports.
  • Reseat the cable at the tower end as well. Unplug and firmly reconnect the USB cable where it meets the back of the camera tower.
  • Restart the laptop and reopen Styku Studio.
  • Check for ambient daylight. Strong sunlight or bright natural light can interfere with the infrared depth sensor. Make sure the scanner is not positioned near windows or in direct sunlight.
  • Reset the turntable connection if needed. Remove the power and USB cables from the turntable, wait 30 seconds, plug the power cable back in, then plug the USB cable back in, and re-launch Styku Studio.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact Styku support via the business portal at https://www.styku.com/portal and include: the exact error message shown in Styku Studio, which USB ports each device is currently connected to (USB-A or USB-C), whether you are using any USB hubs or adapters, and your scanner model if known.
