Why does my turntable spin too many times or inconsistently during a scan?

Why does my turntable spin too many times or inconsistently during a scan?

If your turntable spins 1.5 times instead of once, or behaves inconsistently between scans, the software has likely lost sync with the turntable's position tracking. This is a common issue and is usually resolved by checking your setup and reconnecting the turntable cables.

Step 1: Check Your Surface and Placement

  • Place the turntable on a hard, flat, level surface — carpet or uneven flooring can cause rotation errors.
  • Make sure the turntable has at least 17 inches of clear space on all sides.
  • Avoid placing the scanner near mirrors, white walls, or glossy surfaces. These can interfere with the infrared sensor and affect scan tracking.

Step 2: Reconnect the Turntable Cables

Unplugging and reconnecting the cables forces the turntable to re-sync its position with the software.

  1. Close the Styku Studio application.
  2. Remove the USB cable from the turntable.
  3. Remove the power cable from the turntable.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cable back into the turntable first.
  6. Then plug the USB cable back into the turntable.
  7. Re-launch Styku Studio and wait for the turntable to be recognized before starting a scan.

Step 3: Let the Turntable Come to a Full Stop Before Each Scan

  • After any previous rotation, wait for the turntable to fully stop before initiating a new scan.
  • Starting a scan while the platform is still moving can cause the software to miscalculate the starting position.
  • If you need to manually rotate the turntable to point at the scanning tower without starting a scan, log in as an administrator, press the Tools button, and use the Start/Stop button next to the Start/Stop Turntable option to rotate and then stop the turntable at the desired position.

Step 4: Run a Test Scan Without a Subject

Before scanning a client, run a quick test:

  1. Open Styku Studio on the laptop.
  2. Start a new scan without anyone standing on the turntable.
  3. Watch whether the turntable completes exactly one full rotation and stops.
  4. If it still over-rotates or behaves inconsistently, move on to the next step.

Step 5: Check Turntable Calibration Settings

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, a calibration adjustment may be needed inside the software:

  1. Go to the administrator view by pressing the View Profiles button and entering your PIN code.
  2. Press Tools to open the Tools menu.
  3. Find the Calibrate Turntable option.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to re-calibrate your turntable.

If the Problem Continues

If the issue persists after completing all steps above, contact Styku support via the business portal at https://www.styku.com/portal. When reaching out, include:

  • Your scanner model
  • A description of the rotation behavior (e.g., "spins 1.5 times every scan" or "inconsistent between scans")
  • Whether the issue occurs with or without a subject on the turntable

A Styku support agent can connect to your computer remotely using TeamViewer to check software settings and turntable behavior directly. To prepare for a remote session:

  1. Make sure your scanner laptop is connected to the internet.
  2. Open TeamViewer on the laptop (download from teamviewer.com if not already installed).
  3. Have your TeamViewer ID and password ready to share with the support agent.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
