Why does my client's scanned height change between sessions?

Why does my client's scanned height change between sessions?

Height discrepancies between scans are almost always caused by automatic height detection, not a real change in your client's height. Posture, clothing, hairstyle, or footwear can all cause the scanner to read a slightly different height each session. The good news: once you enter a client's height manually, that correction applies to all of their past and future scans automatically.

Why This Happens

Styku Studio measures height automatically during each scan. Small differences in how a client stands — or what they're wearing — can cause the detected height to vary slightly from session to session. Even a small height difference causes the software to rescale the 3D model, which flows through to other body measurements and makes it look like the client's shape has changed when it hasn't.

Additional factors that can contribute to measurement inconsistencies between sessions include:

  • Scanning in two different environments or locations
  • Reflective objects, no backing wall, or natural light in the scanning environment
  • Inconsistent posture or clothing between scans

Note that clients must meet Styku's height requirements to be scanned: a minimum height of 54 inches and a maximum height of 77 inches.

How to Fix It

There are two steps: enter the correct height manually, then turn off automatic height detection so it doesn't override the manual value in future scans.

Step 1 — Enter the client's height manually in Styku Studio

  1. Open Styku Studio on your scanner laptop.
  2. Find and open the client's profile.
  3. Locate the Height field and enter their actual, measured height.
  4. Save the profile.

Once saved, Styku will reprocess the height retroactively across all of that client's scans.

Step 2 — Disable automatic height detection

  1. In Styku Studio, open Settings.
  2. Find the Height Detection setting and turn it off.
  3. Save your settings.

With automatic height detection off, the system will use the manually entered height for every future scan and will not attempt to re-detect height from the scan data.

Optional — Clients can also update height from the mobile app

Your clients can update their own height directly in the Styku mobile app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store). Any height change made in the app will also apply retroactively to all of their scans.

Additional check — Review weight values across scans

If height inconsistencies are accompanied by unexpected changes in body fat percentage or other measurements, also verify that the weight values recorded for each scan are correct. Weight is listed in the Body Metrics tab, Body Composition section. You can switch between scans using the drop-down menu at the top of the 3D view. If a weight value is incorrect, it can be corrected in Settings > Edit Scan.

What to Expect After the Fix

  • All historical scans for that client will reflect the corrected height.
  • Downstream measurements that depend on height will update accordingly.
  • Future scans will use the manually entered height and remain consistent.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: the affected client's name or profile ID, the business location name or license key, screenshots of two scans showing the height discrepancy, and confirmation of whether automatic height detection has been disabled.

Applies to: Styku Studio, all Styku scanner models
