Why do body fat percentage results show different numbers in Styku Studio versus the Styku mobile app?

Why do body fat percentage results show different numbers in Styku Studio versus the Styku mobile app?

If the body fat percentage shown in Styku Studio (on the scanner laptop) does not match what your clients see in the Styku mobile app, the most common cause is a body composition model mismatch. The mobile app is permanently locked to the Advanced model (Styku Phoenix) and cannot be changed. Styku Studio, however, can be set to either Basic or Advanced — and Basic can produce results that differ by 10% or more from Advanced. Switching Studio to the Advanced model will bring the two displays into alignment.

Why the Numbers Are Different

Styku calculates body fat percentage using two models available in Styku Studio:

  • Basic model — an older calculation method. Produces lower body fat % estimates.
  • Advanced model (Styku Phoenix) — a newer, more refined calculation. This is the model the Styku mobile app always uses, regardless of what is selected in Studio.

When Studio is set to Basic and the mobile app is displaying Advanced results, clients will see two very different numbers for the same scan. This is expected behavior — it is not a scanning error or data corruption.

The Advanced model is Styku's current recommended standard. Styku recommends all customers use it in Studio for consistent, up-to-date results.

How to Switch Styku Studio to Advanced Mode

  1. Open Styku Studio on the scanner laptop.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select StykuAI, then open Advanced.
  4. Find the Body Composition Mode option and check which model is currently selected.
  5. Switch to the Advanced model if it is not already selected.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. Pull up the scan in question and confirm the body fat % now matches what the client sees in the mobile app.

Once this is done, body fat percentages shown in Styku Studio and the mobile app should match for all future scans.

A Note on Existing Scan Results

After switching to Advanced mode, body fat percentages for past scans may also appear updated when viewed in Studio. This is expected — it simply means Studio is now applying the same Advanced calculation the mobile app has always used. The underlying scan data has not changed.

Also Check: Vanity Adjustments

While you are in Settings → StykuAI → Advanced, confirm that no vanity adjustments are applied. These settings can shift displayed values up or down and may cause additional discrepancies between Studio and the mobile app even after the model is aligned.

Also Check: Member Profile Information

Make sure the member's profile details are identical in both Studio and the mobile app:

  • Date of birth
  • Height
  • Gender

Even a small difference in these fields can cause the two systems to calculate and display different body fat % values for the same scan.

Tip: Clients can create their Styku accounts ahead of time by downloading the Styku mobile app and registering there. When they come in to scan, they can log in directly to their account using the QR code option in Styku Studio. This helps ensure profile details (date of birth, height, gender) are entered consistently from the start, reducing the chance of mismatches.

If the Numbers Still Don't Match

If you have confirmed the Advanced model is selected, vanity adjustments are off, and profile details are correct, but the numbers still differ, this may be a software bug that requires investigation by the Styku technical team.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include:

  • Screenshots of the body fat % shown in Styku Studio (note which model — Basic or Advanced — is selected)
  • Screenshots of the same scan in the Styku mobile app
  • The date of the scan
  • An example client name or scan date where the discrepancy occurred
  • The member's profile details (age, height, gender) as they appear in both Studio and the app
  • Your current Styku Studio software version (visible in Studio settings or the title bar)

Applies to: Styku Studio V5 and all versions, Windows 11, Styku mobile app (iOS and Android), all Styku scanner models with active subscriptions.
