Why are my Styku scans distorted or producing no data after a software update?
Why are my Styku scans distorted or producing no data after a software update?
If your scans look distorted, fragmented, or produce empty reports after a software update, the most common cause is a Windows Audio Enhancement setting that interferes with the scanner's sensor. Turning this setting off typically resolves the issue immediately.
Step 1: Turn Off Windows Audio Enhancements
- Click the Start button and open Settings.
- Go to System → Sound.
- Find and select Microphone Array from your list of audio devices.
- Scroll down to Audio Enhancements.
- Change the setting from Device Default Effects to Off.
- Close Settings.
Step 2: Restart and Test Your Scanner
- Close the Styku Studio app if it is open.
- Unplug the camera tower's USB cable from the laptop, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Reopen Styku Studio and run a test scan.
If the scan completes normally and the 3D model looks correct, the issue is resolved.
If the App Won't Open at All (Stuck at Loading)
Some customers have reported that after a software update, Styku Studio freezes during launch — typically getting stuck part way through loading. If this happens:
- Try the Audio Enhancements fix above first, then relaunch the app.
- If the app still won't open, contact Styku Support to arrange a remote session. A support agent will connect to your computer to investigate further. A software reinstall may be required.
Why Does This Happen?
Windows Audio Enhancements can be re-enabled automatically during a Windows or software update. When active, this setting can interfere with how the scanner's sensor communicates with the laptop, causing low frame rates during capture. The result is a distorted, incomplete, or missing 3D model and empty report data. Turning enhancements off restores normal sensor performance.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your Styku Studio software version number, a description of what the scan looks like (distorted, blank, stuck at loading), whether the Audio Enhancements fix was attempted and the result, and your facility name and location.
Applies to: Styku S100 scanners; also reported on other scanner models running Styku Studio after a Windows or software update.
