What's new in Styku Studio V5, and should I install the update?
Styku Studio V5 is the current version of the software, and we recommend all Styku users install it. It includes meaningful improvements to accuracy, privacy, ease of use, and the metrics available to you and your clients.
What's new in Styku Studio V5
Mobile & Login
- QR Code Login: Clients can now log in using the Styku mobile app and a QR code — no more typing email addresses at the scanner. Note: clients can create their Styku account ahead of time by downloading the Styku mobile app, making check-in at the scanner faster and easier.
Privacy & Security
- Account-based scan protection: Each client's scans are tied to their own account and secured with a personal PIN, keeping data private.
Scanning Workflow
- Scan Checkpoint: A new step before each scan confirms that the client is wearing appropriate attire and standing in the correct position. This leads to more accurate results.
Results & Progress Tracking
- Automatic before/after comparison: After each scan completes, V5 immediately displays the new scan alongside the previous one so clients can see their progress right away.
- New unified dashboard: Key metrics, body cross-section overlays, and progress summaries are all shown on a single screen.
New Metrics
- Appendicular lean mass: A measure of muscle in the arms and legs, useful for tracking fitness gains.
- Visceral fat area: Measures fat stored around internal organs, with indicators linked to chronic disease risk.
- Posture module: Analyzes shoulder and hip alignment and flags potential injury or pain risks.
Should I install the update?
Yes. V5 is the recommended version for all Styku scanners. Running the latest version ensures you have access to the newest features, the best scanning accuracy, and ongoing support from the Styku team.
Important: The update process takes approximately 10–30 minutes on average. Please schedule time accordingly before beginning.
A note on your existing scan data
Updating to V5 will not cause you to lose your scans or customer profiles. Styku stores scan data and customer profile information in two places — on your local computer and on cloud servers. Some previous scans may be re-measured to use the latest measurements, but no data will be deleted.
A note on the new metrics and dashboard layout
Some users — particularly personal trainers — have found that the additional metrics and updated layout take a little getting used to, especially when explaining results to clients. A few tips:
- Focus your client conversations on the metrics most relevant to their goals, such as body fat percentage and lean mass.
- The new dashboard lets you highlight specific measurements — you do not need to walk clients through every data point.
- You can customize which pages are included in scan and progress PDF reports sent to clients. To do this, open the Styku app, choose View Profiles, enter your PIN, select Settings, then Reports and Sharing, and press the Advanced button. From there you can add or remove pages from both Scan Report and Progress Report templates.

How to install the update
- Disconnect your Styku turntable and sensor from the computer before beginning.
- Download the latest software from the Styku download page.
- Open the downloaded file and click Install on the Styku window that opens.
- Once installation completes, click Launch to open the app.
- When prompted to log in, use your existing email and password. Do not choose "Create Account" — there is no need to create a new one. If you have forgotten your password, use the Forgot Password option to reset it.
- Choose your software preferences and press Finish to complete the setup.
How to check your current version
- Open Styku Studio on your scanner laptop.
- Look for the version number displayed in the bottom corner of the screen or under Settings.
- If you see V5, you are up to date.
Viewing scan data on another computer
If you want to view client profiles on an additional Windows computer, you can install Styku Studio on that machine and log in with your existing Styku account. You will need a viewing license key from Styku to activate the device. If you do not have one, submit a request through the Styku Business Portal.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your current Styku Studio version number, the scanner model you are using, and a description of any specific features or metrics you have questions about.
