What is a stadiometer and how is it used to measure height?

Overview

A stadiometer is a device used to measure a person's height. It consists of a vertical ruler or measuring tape fixed to a wall or stand, with a sliding horizontal paddle (headboard) that rests on top of the subject's head to record the measurement.

Steps / Details

  • Ask the subject to stand upright against the stadiometer with their back straight.
  • Lower the sliding horizontal paddle until it rests flat on the top of their head.
  • Read the measurement at eye level from the scale on the device.

Notes

  • Stadiometers are straightforward to use but are bulky and not easily portable.
  • Newer, more portable height-measurement technologies are emerging and may replace traditional stadiometers in some settings.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: the device model and the measurement discrepancy observed.

Applies to: All Styku configurations that incorporate height measurement
