How do I prepare a client for a Styku body scan?
How do I prepare a client for a Styku body scan?
Accurate, consistent scans depend on three things: a properly set up environment, correctly attired clients, and correct stance on the turntable. This checklist covers all three.
Step 1: Set up the scanning environment
Before any client steps on the turntable, confirm:
- Clearance: There must be at least 14 inches (36 cm) between the turntable and any wall, equipment, or furniture on all sides. If walls are visible to the scanner camera, scans will deform or produce artifacts.
- Lighting: Avoid bright lights or windows directly above or behind the client. Bright light sources can be mistaken by the infrared camera for part of the body, causing anomalies in scan data.
- Turntable alignment: The arrow on the turntable must point toward the sensor tower before the client steps on.
Step 2: Inform clients of attire requirements before they arrive
Clients should know what to wear before their appointment to avoid delays. Share the following in advance:
- Clothing: Form-fitting, shape-revealing clothing — the scanner cannot see through clothing, so loose or baggy items reduce accuracy.
- Women: sports bra and fitted leggings
- Men: compression shorts, no shirt
- Hair: Long hair must be pulled up into a bun or ponytail, off the neck and shoulders.
- Jewelry and accessories: Remove watches, jewelry, and bulky accessories where practical.
Styku Studio V5 includes an on-screen attire checkpoint before each scan begins — use this moment to verify compliance with the client before proceeding.
Step 3: Position the client on the turntable
- Have the client step onto the footprints on the turntable, facing the sensor tower.
- Ask them to raise their arms to shoulder height, then lower until their arms are approximately 8 inches (20 cm) away from their sides. This is the A-pose. On-screen alignment guides will turn green when the position is correct.
- Instruct the client to remain still and breathe normally during the scan. The turntable makes more than one full rotation — this is expected.
Step 4: Reinforce consistency for returning clients
For clients who scan regularly, consistent attire and posture across sessions are critical for accurate progress tracking. Remind returning clients to wear the same type of clothing each visit — differences in clothing between sessions can appear as measurement changes even when body composition has not changed.
Notes
- Clients do not need to fast or avoid exercise before scanning. Styku uses infrared imaging, not electrical signals, so hydration and food intake do not affect results. Sharing this proactively removes a common barrier to scheduling.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: a description of the scan conditions, photos of the client's attire if available, and a screenshot of any error or artifact visible in the scan output.
