# Styku License Key: Finding, Recovering, Activating, and Troubleshooting Errors

Your Styku license key is required to activate Styku Studio on your scanner laptop. This article explains where to find your key, what to do if it is missing or was not included in your shipment, how to activate Styku Studio, and how to resolve errors that appear when a key is rejected during activation.

## What's in Your Shipment

Your Styku order arrives in three boxes:

- **Camera tower** — the aluminum stand with the sensor
- **Turntable** — the rotating platform your clients stand on
- **Laptop, setup mat, laptop stand, user guide, and accessories** — your license key is printed on the user guide inside this box

Check all three boxes and their packing materials carefully before assuming an item is missing.

## Where to Find Your License Key

Your license key is available in two places:

**Option 1 — User guide or card included in your shipment**

1. Open the box containing the laptop and accessories.
2. Locate the printed user guide or accessory card.
3. Find the license key printed on it. It is a 25-character code in the format `XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX`.

**Option 2 — Styku Business Portal**

1. Go to [styku.com/portal](https://styku.com/portal) and log in to your account.
2. Navigate to the **License Keys** section, or to your scanner or order details.
3. Copy your license key from there.

**If you have multiple Styku units** (for example, at different locations), each unit has its own unique license key listed separately in the portal.

## If Your License Key Is Missing or Cannot Be Located

If the key was not in the accessories box and you do not see it in the Business Portal, it may not have been assigned to your account yet, or it may need to be looked up manually by support.

Contact Styku support through the Business Portal at [styku.com/portal](https://styku.com/portal). Include:

- Your business name and the location the scanner is installed at
- The email address the Styku account is registered under
- Your business location name (if available)

Support will locate your key from your account information and send it to you directly. You do not need to know your key in advance — support can find it for you. Support typically responds within one business day.

> **Note:** Your key is tied to your account. It does not change when support retrieves it for you.

## How to Activate Styku Studio

Once you have your license key:

1. Power on the scanner laptop.
2. Open **Styku Studio** — it is pre-installed and ready to launch.
3. Create your administrator account when prompted (first-time setup), or log in to your existing Styku account when prompted.
4. When prompted to activate, enter your license key exactly as it appears — including all dashes (format: `XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX`). Copy and paste it if possible to avoid typos.
5. Click **Activate** (or **Confirm**, depending on the screen). Styku Studio will confirm that your license is active.
6. Once activated, you are ready to begin scanning.

> **Internet connection required:** Your laptop must be connected to the internet during activation. Styku Studio requires an internet connection to validate your license. If you see an "Unable to connect to the license server" error, open Wi-Fi Settings in Windows, confirm that your Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, and confirm that you are connected to a network. If you are away from your usual location, you may need to hotspot your mobile phone to provide an internet connection.

## Why a License Key May Show an Error During Activation

If your license key returns an error when you enter it in Styku Studio, the most common causes are:

- **The key is still active on another device or account.** This is the most common cause. If your scanner was previously set up by someone else, or if your organization recently changed staff, the key may still be registered to that prior setup. You cannot fix this yourself — Styku Support needs to reset the key on their end.
- **The key was typed incorrectly.** License keys are case-sensitive and must be entered exactly as shown, including dashes. Even a single wrong character will cause an error. Do not add spaces before or after the key.
- **The key has not been fully provisioned yet.** In rare cases, a newly issued key may not be ready in the system immediately.
- **You are using a scanner license key on a secondary viewing-only computer.** If you are trying to install Styku Studio on a second Windows computer, your scanner's primary license key will not work for this purpose. A separate viewing license key is required (see below).
- **No internet connection.** Activation cannot complete without an active internet connection. See the internet connection note in the activation section above.

### What to Do When a Key Error Occurs

1. Locate your license key in the accessories box or the [Styku Business Portal](https://styku.com/portal).
2. Re-enter the key carefully, character by character, including all dashes. Do not add leading or trailing spaces.
3. Verify your internet connection is active.
4. If the error continues, contact Styku Support. Support will check whether the key is locked to a previous device or account and reset it so you can activate successfully. This is handled entirely on Styku's side.

### If a Previous Administrator Set Up the Account

If a staff member who is no longer with your organization was the original account administrator, you may also need the administrator account updated before you can complete activation. Let Support know when you submit your request, and they can handle both the key reset and the account update at the same time.

## Viewing Styku Studio on a Second Computer

If you want to access your client profiles from an additional Windows computer (other than the scanning laptop), you will need a separate **viewing license key**. Your scanner's primary license key will not work for this purpose, and per Styku's licensing terms, each copy of the software installed on a separate device requires its own properly issued license key.

To set up a second computer:

1. Request a viewing license key through the Styku Business Portal at [styku.com/portal](https://styku.com/portal). Styku will generate one for you.
2. Download the latest Styku Studio software onto the additional Windows computer.
3. Launch the software and log in to your existing Styku account when prompted.
4. Enter the viewing license key when prompted to activate the device under your account.

## License Key Security and Licensing Terms

> ⚠️ **Important:** Per Styku's Software License Grant and Restrictions, each license key activates the software on a single permitted device and can only be active on **one computer at a time**. You must not share, disclose to third parties, rent, sublicense, sell, assign, loan, or otherwise transfer your license key or the software. Attempting to activate software using a key issued to a different device or account — or sharing a key across multiple installations without authorization — constitutes a breach of your license agreement with Styku. You must also follow Styku's recommended download, activation, and installation procedures; failure to do so is also a breach of the agreement.

If you are activating on a new computer, support may need to deactivate the key from your old machine first. Mention this when you contact support.

## Contacting Styku Support

Submit a support ticket through the **Styku Business Portal** at [styku.com/portal](https://styku.com/portal).

When contacting support, include as many of the following as apply to your situation:

- Your order number
- Your business name and scanner location
- The email address associated with your Styku Business Portal account
- Confirmation of which boxes you received (for missing-item reports)
- Your license key (if you have it)
- Whether you are activating on a new computer or an existing one
- The exact error message shown on screen
- Your business location name (if available)
