How to opt out of, delay, or manage the Styku Studio V5 automatic update

How to Opt Out of, Delay, or Manage the Styku Studio V5 Automatic Update

The Styku Studio V5 update is not forced. When V5 becomes available for your license, you will see a prompt inside Styku Studio, but the software will not update without your input — unless your license is enrolled in Styku's automated updater. If you want to stay on your current version, Styku support can remove your license from the automated updater list.

Is the V5 Update Mandatory?

No. The update is optional. You can decline the in-app prompt and continue using your current version. However, if your license is enrolled in Styku's automated updater, updates may be pushed to your scanner automatically. Opting out of that process requires action from Styku support — you cannot manage the automated updater yourself from within the software.

What Is the Automated Updater?

Styku maintains an automated updater list. Licenses on this list receive updates pushed to them automatically. If you previously arranged to be excluded from automatic updates, that exemption is tied to your license key and does not expire. You should confirm it is still in place if you received a V5 release notification and are concerned.

Note: Receiving the V5 release announcement email does not mean your update exemption was removed. That email was sent broadly to Styku customers. If you had a prior exemption arranged, it remains in place unless you were notified otherwise. You can contact support to confirm.

What Happens When You Opt Out

  • Your license key is removed from the automated updater list on Styku's side.
  • Your current version of Styku Studio will continue to work as normal.
  • You will not be forced onto V5 Studio during the beta rollout period.
  • Support will confirm the change by email once it has been made.

How to Request an Opt-Out or Confirm Your Exemption

  1. Log in to the Styku Business Portal and locate your license key.
  2. Submit a support ticket requesting removal from the automated updater — or to confirm your existing exemption is still active.
  3. Include your license key in the request so support can look it up quickly.
  4. Styku support will remove or verify your license and reply to confirm.
  5. If the update prompt continues to appear after confirmation, reply to your support ticket and request a technical call to review your application settings.

If the Update Prompt Keeps Appearing or Blocks Access to the Software

Some older versions of Styku Studio may shut down if an update prompt is declined repeatedly. If this happens:

  1. Contact support immediately and describe the behavior — specifically that declining the update causes the app to close — and reference your existing ticket if you have one.
  2. Support can assist with a version that does not force a shutdown on decline, or guide you through the correct reinstall process.

⚠️ Do not attempt to reinstall the software on your own without guidance from support. If the software shuts down when you dismiss the update prompt, reinstalling on your own may not resolve the underlying issue and could make things harder to fix.

If You Decide to Update Later

If you later choose to apply the V5 update manually, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect your Styku turntable and sensor from the computer before running the installer.
  2. Download the latest software version from the link provided by Styku support or from the official download location.
  3. Run the installer. The update process takes approximately 10–30 minutes on average.
  4. When prompted to log in, use your existing Styku email and password — do not choose Create Account.

ℹ️ Your scan data will not be lost if you update. Styku stores scan data and customer profile information both on your local computer and on cloud servers. Previous scans and customer profiles are preserved after an update, though scan data may be re-measured to use the latest measurements.

Important: Update Prompts Are Not the Same as a Broken License

If your scanner laptop stops working entirely and you need to move Styku Studio to a different computer, that is a separate issue — a license transfer, not an update opt-out. Submit a new support ticket for that situation so support can deactivate your old license and help you reinstall on the new machine.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include:

  • Your license key
  • The current version of Styku Studio displayed in the app
  • A description of any update prompts you are seeing, including whether declining the prompt causes the app to close
  • Whether you had a previously arranged update exemption, and the date you received opt-out confirmation from support

Applies to: Styku Studio V4 users receiving V5 beta update notifications; all Styku scanner configurations enrolled in or concerned about the V5 automated updater.
