How does the V5 scan workflow differ from previous versions of Styku Studio?

Styku Studio V5 changed the order of steps when starting a scan. Instead of pressing Start Scan and then selecting or creating a client profile, your client must now identify themselves first — before the scan begins. This prevents scans from being saved to the wrong profile.

Why Did This Change?

In the previous workflow, it was easy to accidentally save a scan to the wrong client profile because profile selection happened after the scan was already initiated. The V5 workflow fixes this by requiring profile identification upfront, every time.

The Two Ways Clients Can Identify Themselves

Option 1: QR Code (Recommended)

This option works best when your clients have the Styku mobile app installed. Administrators can also create profiles before scanning by going to Settings → Customer Profiles and Scan Data → Create Profile (requires email, first name, last name, birthday, sex, and height). Alternatively, clients can create their accounts ahead of time by downloading the Styku mobile app and creating their account there. They can then log in directly to their account using the QR code option in Styku Studio, making this the fastest, easiest way to log in and start scanning.

  1. Your client downloads the Styku app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and creates an account.
  2. At the start of a scan session, the Styku Studio software displays a QR code on screen.
  3. Your client scans the QR code using their phone camera.
  4. Their profile is linked, and the screen will show instructions to proceed with the scan.
  5. When the scan is complete, results appear automatically in their Styku mobile app.

Option 2: Email Lookup

This option works for clients who do not have or do not want to use the Styku mobile app.

  1. At the scan start screen, select Email.
  2. Enter the client's email address.
  3. If a profile already exists for that email, it will be selected automatically.
  4. If no profile exists yet, you will be prompted to create a new profile for that client.
  5. Once the profile is ready, proceed with the scan as normal.

What You Need to Do Before Your Next Client Session

  • Brief your staff on the new two-step process: profile first, then scan.
  • Encourage clients to download the Styku app and create an account before their appointment if you want to use the QR code option.
  • Have client email addresses on hand if you plan to use the email lookup option instead.

What Stays the Same

  • The scan itself — pose, turntable rotation, and capture time — has not changed.
  • All biometrics, 3D models, and progress tracking work exactly as before.
  • Scan results still appear in Styku Studio on the laptop after processing.
  • You can share results after a scan by pressing the Share Results button, then selecting the report type and choosing to Print, Email, or Save it. You can also customize which pages are included in a report by unchecking any pages you don't want to send and pressing Set Pages. If you email a report, the software will ask you to confirm the email address; note that changing the address here will not update the email associated with the customer's profile.
  • To control which pages are included in all reports going forward, go to View Profiles > Settings > Reports and Sharing > Advanced (log in with your Styku administrator account), where you will find Progress Report Pages and Scan Report Pages settings.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: your Styku Studio software version number (found in the app settings), a description of which profile selection method you are using (QR code or email), and any error messages displayed on screen.
