How do I transfer a used Styku scanner to a new owner or company?

How do I transfer a used Styku scanner to a new owner or company?

If you've purchased a used Styku scanner — or are closing your business and passing your scanner to another company — the new owner needs to set up a fresh Styku account before they can use it. This is not something you can do on your own. Styku's sales team handles all ownership transfers, and there are fees involved to cover account security, setup, and onboarding.

Per Styku's terms of service, equipment purchases not made through a Styku sales agent — including used Styku equipment purchased from third-party resellers or private parties — are subject to fees imposed by Styku in order to access the service and operate the equipment. These fees cover both securing the previous owner's account and data, and creating new account licensing and permissions for the new owner, as well as onboarding, training, and after-sales agent access.

What the Transfer Process Involves

Transferring a Styku scanner to a new owner requires the following:

  • Fees imposed by Styku: These cover securing the previous owner's account and data, creating new account licensing and permissions for the new owner, onboarding, training, and after-sales agent access. Contact your Styku sales representative for current fee details, as pricing may vary depending on your specific situation.
  • A Software Subscription: The new owner selects a subscription plan to run Styku Studio. Subscription pricing varies — your sales contact will walk you through the current options.

Pricing on fees may vary. Your Styku sales contact can tell you what applies to your specific situation.

How to Get Started

  1. Contact Styku to let them know you have a used scanner to transfer. The fastest way is to submit a support ticket through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal.
  2. A Styku sales representative will reach out to guide you through the process and send you an order form.
  3. Complete the order form and submit payment for the applicable fees.
  4. Once payment is received, Styku's support team will generate a new license key for the new owner's account.
  5. You'll receive access to the Styku Business Portal, where you'll find your new license key, onboarding materials, and training resources.
  6. Download the latest Styku Studio software onto the scanner laptop (or another permitted Windows computer), launch the software, log in to your new Styku account when prompted, and enter your new license key to activate the device and begin scanning.

Note on license keys: Per Styku's Software License Grant terms, license keys are unique to the account holder and must not be disclosed to any third party. The new owner's license key is tied to their account only. If the new owner also wants to view scan data on an additional Windows computer, they will need a separate viewing license key — which can be requested through the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal.

What the Previous Owner Needs to Know

The previous owner does not need to do anything technical before handing over the scanner. Styku handles the data removal and license reset on their end as part of the account-securing process. However, if the scanner is still under a financing agreement (such as a lease through a third-party lender), that financial obligation must be resolved separately before or during the ownership transfer.

Additionally, per Styku's warranty terms, the limited warranty and all extended warranties are non-transferable — they apply only to the original purchaser and cannot be passed to a subsequent owner.

What the New Owner Receives

Once the transfer is complete, the new owner will have:

  • A new Styku account tied to their business
  • An active software license and subscription
  • Access to the Styku Business Portal for training and marketing materials
  • Access to Styku's support team

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: the license key or business location name of the scanner being transferred (if available), the name of the previous owner or business, the name and contact information of the new owner or business, and confirmation of whether any financing on the scanner has been resolved.

Applies to: All Styku scanner models; all customers acquiring a used Styku scanner or transferring scanner ownership to a new business.
