How do I set up my Styku scanner after moving to a new location?
Moving your Styku scanner to a new location is mostly a matter of reassembling the same components you had before. As long as you have all the parts and cables, setup at the new location follows the same steps as the original installation.
What You Need
Before you start, confirm you have all of the following:
- Camera tower — the tall aluminum stand with the infrared camera
- Laptop computer — with Styku Studio pre-installed
- Turntable — the rotating platform your clients stand on
- USB cable — connects the camera tower to the laptop
- USB cable — connects the turntable to the laptop
- Turntable power adapter — plugs the turntable into a wall outlet
- Laptop power adapter — to keep the laptop charged during use
Choosing the Right Spot
Your new scanning area needs to meet these requirements:
- No direct sunlight or bright ambient daylight — windows and skylights can interfere with the infrared camera
- At least 17 inches of clearance on all sides of the turntable — walls or furniture too close will affect scan quality
- A nearby power outlet for the turntable adapter and laptop charger
Reassembly Steps
- Place the turntable in the center of your scanning area, with at least 17 inches of clear space on all sides.
- Position the camera tower in front of the turntable, facing it directly.
- Connect the camera tower USB cable from the back of the tower to the laptop.
- Connect the turntable USB cable from the turntable to the laptop.
- Plug the turntable power adapter into a wall outlet and connect it to the turntable.
- Plug in and power on the laptop.
- Make sure the laptop is connected to Wi-Fi — an internet connection is required for Styku Studio to function.
- Open Styku Studio on the laptop and confirm the software loads normally.
- Run a test scan to verify everything is working.
After Reassembly: Verifying Your Settings
Once you have confirmed the system is scanning correctly, it is worth checking that your report and sharing settings are still configured as expected. To review or adjust which pages are included in scan and progress reports:
- Open the Styku app and choose View Profiles, then enter your PIN.
- Choose the Settings option.
- Find and select Reports and Sharing.
- Press the Advanced button and log in using your Styku administrator account.
- Inside Advanced settings, you will find Progress Report Pages and Scan Report Pages, where you can add or remove pages from either report type. Note: changes here apply to all reports sent from the software going forward.
You can also share scan results or export 3D files directly from Styku Studio. To share a report, press the Share Results button after opening a scan profile, select the report type, and choose to Print, Email, or Save it. To export a scan as a 3D file for use with a 3D printer or other 3D software, press Share Results, then select either OBJ or STL format and press Save.
If a Cable or Component Is Missing
If you are missing any cables or parts after your move, contact Styku Support. Be ready to describe which specific item is missing so the team can advise on a replacement.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your scanner model, a description of which cable or component appears to be missing or damaged, any error messages shown in Styku Studio, and confirmation of whether the laptop detects the camera tower and turntable when plugged in.
Applies to: All current Styku scanner configurations (Styku X2L, X2, X2 Pro)
