How do I read the Disease Risk section of the Styku Scan Report?

Overview

The Disease Risk section of the Styku summary report estimates a client's increased risk for several obesity-related diseases based on their waist circumference measurement. This section appears after the body shape analysis and is grounded in peer-reviewed scientific research.

Steps / Details

Overall Disease Risk Level

  • At the top of this section, an overall disease risk level is displayed.
  • This is based solely on waist circumference — a direct measurement that requires no calculation (unlike BMI or waist-to-hip ratio).
  • Evidence supports waist circumference as a significant and sometimes superior indicator of health risk compared to BMI and waist-to-hip ratio.

Specific Disease Risk Multipliers

  • Below the overall level, the report shows individual risk multipliers for specific diseases.
  • These values are validated from peer-reviewed research.
  • How to read a multiplier:
    • A value of 1.0 = no increased risk above baseline.
    • A value greater than 1.0 = increased risk.
    • Example: A result of 1.4x for cardiovascular disease means the client may have a 40% greater risk of cardiovascular disease compared to baseline.

Diseases Assessed

The report covers the following disease categories:

Disease Category | Why Waist Circumference Is Relevant

**Cancer** | Abdominal fat is linked to higher inflammation and elevated hormone levels (e.g., estrogen), which may promote cancer cell growth. Types assessed include colorectal, ovarian, endometrial, and postmenopausal breast cancer. The report provides an overall risk across all cancer types.

**Cardiovascular Disease** | Abdominal fat is metabolically active and releases fatty acids and inflammatory molecules that can cause arterial plaque buildup, blood clots, and elevated blood pressure. Includes coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and peripheral arterial disease.

**Respiratory Disease** | Abdominal obesity contributes to systemic inflammation and physical pressure on the chest and lungs, potentially causing or worsening asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and similar conditions.

**All Other Diseases / All-Cause Mortality** | A high waist circumference is associated with increased risk of a broad range of health conditions and premature death. This value provides an overall estimate of general disease risk.

Notes

  • These risk values are estimates, not diagnoses. They indicate elevated statistical risk based on waist circumference alone and should be discussed with appropriate clinical context.
  • Waist circumference is the only measurement used for this section — no additional calculations are needed by the practitioner.
  • Use this section to help clients understand how abdominal fat affects the body physiologically and motivate engagement with fitness or wellness programs.
  • Cancer risks assessed are limited to those with established links to abdominal obesity; genetic or hereditary cancer risk is not reflected here.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: the scan date, client profile details, and a screenshot of the Disease Risk section showing unexpected values.
