How do I reactivate a dormant Styku scanner after months or years of non-use?
How do I reactivate a dormant Styku scanner after months or years of non-use?
If your Styku scanner has been sitting unused for a long time, you can likely get it running again — but there are costs and steps involved. The process starts with a conversation with the Styku sales team, who will review your subscription status, discuss current plan options, and assess whether any hardware needs attention.
What to Expect
Reactivating a dormant system typically involves a few key areas:
- Subscription reinstatement — Your software subscription has almost certainly lapsed. An active subscription is required to use Styku Studio and scan. The sales team will walk you through current plan options and pricing.
- License reactivation — Your license key may need to be reactivated, especially if the laptop has not been used or updated in a long time.
- Hardware assessment — Depending on how long the system has been inactive and which scanner model you have, the sales team may discuss whether any hardware recertification or upgrades are recommended.
- Software updates — The Styku Studio software on your laptop will likely need to be updated to the current version before scanning can resume.
How to Get Started
- Log in to the Styku Business Portal at styku.com/portal.
- Submit a support ticket using the ticket form. In your message, let us know your scanner model (if you know it), how long the system has been inactive, and that you'd like to reactivate.
- Alternatively, email support@styku.com — a ticket will be created automatically.
- A member of the Styku sales team will follow up with you to discuss subscription options, any associated costs, and next steps.
What to Have Ready
When you reach out, it helps to have the following information available:
- Your scanner model (printed on the camera tower or turntable, or check your original order)
- Your license key (printed on the user guide that shipped with your scanner, and also available in the Business Portal)
- Approximate date the system was last used
- Your business name and contact information
Once You Are Back Up and Running
After your subscription and license have been reinstated and your software is updated, here are a few things to be aware of in the current Styku Studio software:
- Creating customer profiles — Administrators can create client profiles before scanning by going to Settings → Customer Profiles and Scan Data → Create Profile (requires email, first name, last name, birthday, sex, and height). Alternatively, customers can create their accounts ahead of time by downloading the Styku mobile app. When they come in to scan, they can log in directly to their account using the QR code option in Styku Studio, which is the fastest and easiest way to log in and start scanning.
- Sharing scan reports — Once a scan is complete, press the Share Results button to create and share reports. You can print, email, or save reports, and you can customize which pages are included before sending.
- Customizing report pages — To control which pages are included in scan or progress reports going forward, open the Styku app, choose View Profiles, enter your PIN, select Settings, then Reports and Sharing, and press the Advanced button (requires your Styku administrator account). Inside Advanced settings you will find Progress Report Pages and Scan Report Pages, where you can add or remove pages. Note: changes here apply to all reports sent from the software going forward.
- Exporting 3D scan files — Styku supports exporting scans to OBJ and STL 3D file formats via the Share Results button, which can then be used with 3D visualization or 3D printing applications.
- Viewing scans in 3D — You can rotate, pan, and zoom the 3D body scan view. Use the Reset button in the top right corner of the window to return the model to its starting position if needed.
If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.
If the problem persists, contact support and include: your scanner model, your license key, the approximate date of last use, and a description of any error messages shown when you try to launch Styku Studio.
Applies to: All Styku scanner models with lapsed or inactive subscriptions.
