How do I get accurate, confident body fat percentage results from my Styku scanner?

How do I get accurate, confident body fat percentage results from my Styku scanner?

It is normal to have questions about body fat percentage results after your initial Styku training. Styku measures body fat using 3D body shape data, and result quality depends on consistent scan technique, proper setup, and understanding how Styku's method compares to other devices. The steps below will help you get reliable results and explain them confidently to your clients.

Make Sure Your Scan Environment Is Set Up Correctly

Poor scan conditions are the most common cause of inconsistent results. Check these before every scan session:

  • No windows or skylights letting in direct or ambient daylight — natural light interferes with the infrared camera
  • At least 17 inches of clear space on all sides of the turntable
  • Camera tower and turntable both connected to the laptop via USB
  • Turntable power adapter plugged into a wall outlet
  • Internet connection active (required for scan processing and license validation)

Guide Clients to Scan in a Consistent Way

Body fat results are most reliable and comparable over time when clients scan the same way each visit:

  • Wear form-fitting clothing (or minimal clothing) — loose clothing adds volume and affects measurements
  • Same time of day for repeat scans when possible
  • Same posture: arms slightly away from the body, feet shoulder-width apart
  • Stand still and hold the instructed pose until the scan completes (approximately 30 seconds)
  • Remove shoes, heavy jewelry, and accessories

Keep Your Styku Software Up to Date

Running the latest version of Styku Studio ensures you have the most current body composition algorithms and measurement models. To update your software:

  1. Disconnect your Styku turntable and sensor from the computer before starting.
  2. Download the latest software from the Styku software download link.
  3. Follow the on-screen installation steps and click Launch when complete.
  4. Log in using your existing Styku email and password. Do not create a new account if you already have one. If you have forgotten your password, use the Forgot Password option to reset it.

Note: The update process typically takes 10–30 minutes. Please schedule time accordingly.

After updating, your previous scan data and customer profiles will not be lost. Styku stores scan data both locally on your computer and on cloud servers. Your previous data may be re-measured to use the latest measurements, but no scans or profiles will be deleted.

Complete the Styku Studio V5 Training

If you have not yet completed the full Styku Studio V5 training in the Styku Business Portal, do that first. The training covers scan technique, reading results, and explaining metrics to clients. Your license key and training checklist are both available inside the portal.

  1. Log in to the Styku Business Portal
  2. Navigate to the Training section
  3. Complete all checklist items under your operator name
  4. Download your certification when finished

Activate the Advanced Model for Improved Body Fat Results

The Advanced body composition model is an upgraded model that provides enhanced body fat percentage accuracy. If you have not yet activated it:

  1. Log in to the Styku Business Portal and locate your Advanced model activation code
  2. Open Styku Studio on your scanner laptop
  3. Enter the code when prompted to enable the Advanced model
  4. Re-scan a test subject to see results under the new model

If you are unsure whether the Advanced model is active on your account, contact Styku support to confirm.

Understand How Styku Calculates Body Fat

Styku estimates body fat from 3D body shape measurements — not from electrical signals like a scale or BIA device (such as InBody). This means:

  • Results may differ from other devices, and that is expected
  • Styku is best used to track change over time, not as a one-time absolute number
  • Repeat scans under consistent conditions show the most meaningful progress data

When explaining results to clients, focus on trends between scans rather than comparing a single Styku number to a number from a different device.

When to Contact Your Account Manager

If you want a one-on-one consultation covering scan best practices, Advanced model setup, business utilization strategies, or marketing your Styku, your Styku account manager can help. Reach out through the support portal to request a consultative call.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: your scanner model, a description of the specific result you are uncertain about (e.g., body fat percentage shown vs. expected), details of your scan environment setup, and whether the Advanced model is activated on your account.

Applies to: Styku Studio V5, all current Styku scanner models (X2L, X2, X2 Pro); Advanced body composition model where activated
