Getting Started with Styku: Activation, Hardware Setup, Training, and First Scan

This article walks new Styku customers through the complete setup journey, from unboxing to first scan. Follow these steps in order. Each step links to a detailed article if you need more information.

Step 1: Verify Your Components

Your Styku scanner ships in three boxes. Before starting setup, confirm you have: camera tower, turntable, laptop computer, laptop stand, setup mat, USB cables (one for the tower, one for the turntable), and turntable power adapter. Your license key is printed in the user guide included in the shipment — keep it somewhere safe.

If any part is missing or damaged, contact Styku Support before proceeding. See What components are included with the Styku scanner system? for the full parts list with specifications.

Step 2: Create Your Business Portal Account

The Styku Business Portal is your hub for training, license keys, marketing materials, billing, and support.

  1. Go to www.styku.com/welcome and create your account.
  2. Wait approximately one minute for provisioning.
  3. Log in at www.styku.com/portal.

Any staff member at your facility can create their own portal account. See What is the Styku Business Portal? for a full overview.

Step 3: Locate Your License Key

Your license key is available in three places:

  • Printed in the user guide that ships in the accessories box
  • In the Styku Business Portal under your account details
  • Email from Styku Support sent after payment is processed

If you have not received your license key and believe your payment has been processed, contact Styku Support through the Business Portal.

Step 4: Complete Your Onboarding Training

We strongly recommend completing training before your first client appointment. Two paths are available — both are included with all Styku plans:

Live onboarding (White Glove): All plans include a welcome webinar, one-on-one setup with the customer success team, support for your first scan, and 30-day scan auditing. Elite and Enterprise plans also include a dedicated account manager.

Self-paced (Styku Academy): Log in to the Business Portal, scroll to Training & Education, and select Styku Academy. Two certification courses with 24/7 access, quizzes, and digital certificates:

  • Course 1 (13 lessons): Software Features, Scan Analysis, and Reports
  • Course 2 (12 lessons): Health Assessments and Body Composition

See What happens during a Styku onboarding session, and what does it cover? and What is the Styku onboarding checklist? for details.

Step 5: Choose and Prepare Your Setup Location

Key requirements:

  • Minimum footprint: 6 ft x 4.3 ft (185 cm x 131 cm)
  • Turntable-to-tower distance: 25 inches
  • Clearance around turntable: at least 14 inches on all sides (18 inches recommended)
  • No direct sunlight or bright daylight — infrared sensor interference
  • Power outlet nearby for the turntable adapter
  • Internet connection (Wi-Fi or wired) — required for activation and scanning

See How do I choose the right location for my Styku X2L scanner? for the full clearance and lighting guide.

Step 6: Connect the Hardware

Styku connects via wired USB cables only — there is no Bluetooth or wireless option.

  1. Place the turntable on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Plug in the turntable power adapter (turntable will not spin without power).
  3. Connect the turntable USB cable to the laptop.
  4. Place the camera tower facing the turntable, 25 inches away.
  5. Connect the camera tower USB cable to the laptop.
  6. Power on the laptop and connect to the internet.

Use the USB cables that came with your scanner. Substituting other cables can prevent hardware detection. If the software does not detect the turntable or camera tower, unplug and reseat the USB cables, try different USB ports, and confirm the turntable power adapter is plugged in.

See How do I set up the Styku X2L scanner on the mat? and How do I assemble the Styku X2L scanning tower? for detailed hardware instructions.

Taking over a used scanner? The physical wiring is identical, but you will also need a license transfer. See How do I activate a Styku license on a second-hand or transferred scanner?

Step 7: Activate Styku Studio

Styku Studio comes pre-installed on the scanner laptop.

  1. Open Styku Studio (look for the Styku icon on the desktop).
  2. Create your administrator account when prompted.
  3. Enter your license key exactly as shown in your user guide, portal, or email.
  4. Complete the on-screen activation steps.

An active internet connection is required. Each license key can only be active on one computer at a time. If you ever replace your laptop or reinstall Windows, you will need to reactivate your license.

Step 8: Run Your First Scan

  1. Select New Scan and create a scan profile. Clients can also create their accounts ahead of time via the Styku mobile app and log in using the QR code option for faster sessions.
  2. Have the client stand on the turntable, facing the camera tower.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions for pose alignment.
  4. The turntable rotates for approximately 30 seconds while the camera records.
  5. Processing takes approximately 2 minutes — the 3D model and measurements appear on screen when complete.

Step 9: Share Scan Results

  1. Open the client's scan profile and press Share Results.
  2. Select Scan Report or Progress Report.
  3. Choose to Print, Email, or Save the report.
  4. To customize which pages are included, uncheck pages and press Set Pages.

Styku Studio can also auto-email a summary report to clients after each scan — toggle this in your settings. To export 3D scan files for 3D printing or other software, select OBJ or STL format from the Share Results menu.

Optional: Viewing Licenses and Mobile App

  • Viewing license: To review scan results on a separate Windows computer without moving the scanner, install Styku Studio on that machine and enter a viewing license key (request one through the Business Portal).
  • Mobile app: Clients can view their scans, measurements, and progress for free on the Styku mobile app (Apple App Store and Google Play). Download a printable QR code brochure from the Business Portal under Marketing Assets.
